Dr Janet Ronsky

Janet Ronsky is a professor in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering, and is affiliated with the Faculty of Kinesiology, and Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Janet holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering (Waterloo University) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (University of Calgary). She is an elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineers, and serves on several national grant review panels. Her research focuses on understanding links between musculoskeletal structure, dynamic joint function, neuromotor control, and joint injuries and diseases. Medical imaging, experimental and numerical modeling approaches are applied to develop novel diagnostic and treatment techniques to enhance health care. She has developed innovative technologies relating to medical imaging and materials testing, and holds several patents. With over 400 publications, her research and trainees have been recognized with several prestigious awards. Recently retired, Janet loves spending time recreating and travelling with her amazing husband, daughters, family, and friends.

Brief Presentation Abstract

Shake those hips……You gotta move it!

You may not be “born to run”, but we are all born to move. Hear about how the joints in your body are designed to move efficiently. Explore what happens when these joints naturally age, get injured or diseased with arthritis. Learn how engineers probe the mechanics of joints, leading to improved diagnostics and treatments. Be inspired to get out and move!
